Utility Locator- Job Description JOB TITLE - Utility Locator -RI/MA REPORTS TO:
Damage Prevention Manager GENERAL SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
This position serves as a resource in the prevention of damages to company and client property.
She/he is responsible for executing proper dig safe principles and utility locations.
Preferred candidates will have a background in utility location relative to gas utility companies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Ability to use as-built maps, service cards, plats and other client records to assist in locating the lines.
Map and print reading skills Operate handheld detection equipment in the correct manner to accurately locate and identify underground utility lines.
Properly mark the correct location of underground utility lines/facilities using required spray paint, flags and other equipment.
Complete and document work activities using laptop computer and input information into company's database in a timely manner.
Knowledge of Dig Safe laws.
Knowledge of Small World Operating System or similar computer system is a plus.
Ability to communication effectively and professionally with utilities and governmental agencies.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIRED High School Diploma A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in utility (gas) locating KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.
Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Attention to detail and ability to recognize discrepancies.
Strong work ethic.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Some travel may be required.
Valid driver's license required.
Ability to lift up to 50lbs, work on slippery surfaces and uneven ground, drive extensively and get in and out of vehicles repeatedly throughout the day.
